How my ancestors reflect world history
By David Stern
Maybe there wasn't a celebrity among my ancestors, but as people, they were an inseparable part of world history. My grandparents lived World War two in Europe and the Holocaust. Some of their relatives didn't survive. They immigrated to Israel as part of the immigration of the Jewish People to Israel, taking place in the last 130 years. My parents, as soldiers, took part in Yom Kippur war (between Israel, Egypt and Syria in 1973). History is not just about individuals. It is also about countries, peoples, soldiers, workers, builders and so on. It is about all of us. I believe that each and every one of us has an ancestor who took part in a historical event. |
