Remembering the Holocaust
By David Stern
This Tuesday (April 21st) is the Israeli memorial day of the Holocaust. Six million Jews were murdered in World War 2. These Jews didn't fight in the war. They were civilians of the countries conquered by the Third Reich. They were murdered for one simple reason: they were Jews. Today, you can see whole neighborhoods and towns in Europe, that used to be populated by Jews before the war, and now they are completely empty. You can see today the places that used to be concentration camps, where the Jews were gathered together to be killed. Their personal belongings like clothes and shoes were kept in special museums - where they're piled up in thousands. Few survivors of the Holocaust still live today, and can tell us about it. The Holocaust was the peek of thousands of years of anti-Semitism. |
